SMI $8million Maritime Energy Systems
R&D Programme Grant Call
 
 
As part of Singapore Maritime Institute’s (SMI) strategies on green technologies for differentiation as well as to direct R&D to develop new capabilities and support translational efforts under the goal of R&D, the Maritime Energy Systems (MES) R&D Programme is established to address the industry needs towards the development of innovative and unique solutions to manage energy usage and efficiency within the maritime sector. A total research grant amounting to $8 million over 3 years have been allocated to promote research through the open grant call for proposals within the public sector research performers in Singapore. Applicants of this grant are strongly encouraged to work out the proposals with the participation of the maritime industries, among others.

SMI welcomes research proposals from Principal Investigators and researchers from the public sector research performers in Singapore for consideration towards funding. The public sector research performers would include entities such as publicly funded Institutes of Higher Learning and research institutes under the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR). SMI welcomes the industry and overseas research partners to collaborate and participate in the research proposals with the local Institutes of Higher Learning and research institutes.

The closing date for proposal submissions is 17 August 2012. More information on the MES R&D Programme and grant call can be found here.

Technical Talk: LNG as the Next Generation Marine Fuel
 
   
The Joint Branch of RINA and IMarEST (Singapore), Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, Singapore and the Centre for Offshore Research and Engineering will be organizing a Technical Talk on Wednesday, 15 August 2012, 7.00 pm at the Engineering Auditorium, NUS Faculty of Engineering. The topic for the lecture is “LNG as the next generation marine fuel: challenges and opportunities” by Dr Lorenzo Casarosa, Senior Consultant of Clean Technology Centre, DNV.

Ngee Ann Polytechnic Centre of Innovation - Marine & Offshore Technology (COI-MOT) is organising three (3) offshore oil & gas courses to be conducted by Dr John Preedy of Azur Offshore, UK.

The aim of the course is to help participants in acquiring the fundamental knowledge on Offshore Drilling, Production Technology, and Offshore Safety. Upon completion of the course, participants should be able to understand the basics, their working principles and field requirements.
